Abstract:
The 1999 Higher Education Project Conference was held at the Emergency Management Institute (EMI) in Emmitsburg, Maryland, on July 7-8, 1999. The conference brought together Higher Education Project course developers, representatives of colleges and universities that have hazards, disaster and emergency management programs, and representatives of schools that are actively seeking to develop and implement such programs. Sixty-four participants from forty-nine colleges and universities in thirty states attended. The participants were given the opportunity to share interests and needs with emergency management course developers. The attendees also spent time discussing new issues concerning higher education in emergency management. The report is a synopsis of what happened during the conference including presentations by selected speakers, discussions in breakout sessions, and overviews of various programs in emergency management across the United States.
