Abstract:
Modern educators, trainers and learners have access to an increasing variety and range of tools to help facilitate learning. Technology continues to improve rapidly. New ideas are being proposed to exploit new technologies. Change is becoming a constant feature of the learning environment. This paper will look at one of the new technologies offered to facilitate learning – computer based education and training. The focus of the paper will be on adult learning, examining the transition from traditional learning environments to more modern settings. It will briefly review the history of computers in training and education, then look at different uses of computers in managing learning, mediating learning and providing instruction. In particular, it will examine issues of efficiency, effectiveness, access and equity. Specifically, the paper uses a volunteer emergency service organisation as a case study to illustrate the potential and pitfalls of CBET. | |||
