SUMMARYEIIP Virtual Forum Special Feature Humanitarian Response and Relief in Kosovo Speakers Stephen M. Apatow Campbell King Moderator [Due to a server error, transcripts of this session are unavailable.] This session focused on a common problem in disaster relief and response, the challenge of donated goods. It frequently can cost more to ship goods, than the goods are worth, and donated items may be wholly inappropriate. Most of the items needed can be purchased from elsewhere in the affected country, facilitating delivery, and stimulating the local economy. Cash donations are preferred, and can be made through a variety of agencies.Stephen Apatow related how his organization undertook and education campaign on this issue through media outlets in the U.S. Cam King has been involved with Rotary International and a program of Vocational Fellowships, whereby local Rotary clubs respond in their own communities, and aid from abroad is channeled through the local organization. |
