Mission The mission of the EIIP is to promote the safety of the general public by enhancing the effectiveness of individuals, whether paid or unpaid, full-time or part-time, who are engaged in some aspect of emergency/disaster management. Vision To be valued by members of the academic, business, government, community and volunteer sectors as the leading provider of unique opportunities for dynamic exchange and discussion of timely and relevant emergency management information. Our Guiding Principles We value the contribution to society made by the thousands of dedicated individuals who are committed to serving their communities, no matter how large or small their emergency management role may be, and we are committed to serving them. We believe that dialogue between levels of government, researchers and practitioners, private and public sector individuals and organizations, and between first responders, volunteers, and interested stakeholders enhances individual and organizational effectiveness. We encourage dialogue about important public safety issues, and provide opportunities to learn from each other. We believe that all phases of emergency management--mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery--in an "All Hazards" context, must continually improve in the future, and we strive to contribute to this improvement in our own unique way. We believe that the application of emerging information technologies has significant, and as yet largely unrealized, potential for improving collaboration and coordination, and we support the development of open, consensus standards as the means to achieving interoperable solutions. We believe that the challenges posed by natural, technological, and civil hazards are universal, and that individuals the world over have something to contribute. We endeavor to support international efforts and approaches that are based on mutual respect and dialogue. * * * * |
