About Dean R. Larson, Ph.D., CEM Dr. Larson is the Department Manager, Safety and Industrial Hygiene for U.S. Steel Gary Works in Gary, Indiana. He was commissioned in the U.S. Navy, upon graduation from Purdue, and retired as a Captain with thirty years of active and reserve service in Special Operations, Surface Warfare, and Communications. He received his Master's degree from the Naval Postgraduate School and Ph.D. from Purdue in Instructional Technology. Prior to his present position, Dr. Larson worked for Argonne National Laboratory as Environment, Safety and Health Training Manager. Before joining the staff of Argonne, he worked for U.S. Steel in Gary, Indiana, managing environment, safety and health programs for the Coke and Chemicals operations. He returned to U.S. Steel in 1995 to assume his present position. He currently serves as his company's representative and Training Chair of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, Lake County, Indiana. Dr. Larson is a Certified Safety Professional and a Certified Emergency Manager, with additional qualifications in hazardous materials and explosive safety. He teaches courses in instructional design, training and emergency management at Purdue University Calumet. |
